Building a high-end product with the level of complexity of a car, while still maintaining a competitive price for the end consumer, requires the outstanding performance of every link in the supply chain. In such a competitive business, every business is constantly challenged to innovate to meet rising client expectations and maintain a healthy business model. Albert Einstein’s paradigm that “the measure of intelligence is the ability to change” is surely true for the automotive industry.

The enormous number of patent applications filed by Audi AG proves that even a company that uses the marketing slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik” acknowledges that a solid IP strategy is a conscious combination of different IP rights, such as patents, trademarks, designs, etc. In the first part of the workshop, European patent attorney Raimond Haan will elaborate on how IP works, and what different IP rights are to be considered in a solid IP strategy.

In the automotive industry, the level of collaboration is extremely high. A huge number of suppliers in the value chain provide various services and elements. After all, besides being highly innovative, the automotive industry is also multi-disciplinary. Experienced IP lawyer Anne Laarman will discuss IP contracts and provides tips when Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) work together with OEMs.
