How to attract more students to the automotive sector

Roen Pulles, student at HAN, did a graduation assignment at ACE from September 2020 to January 2021. The title of his thesis is: How to attract 10% more students to the automotive sector.” That is challenging, we asked Roen to explain this.
Roen: “I did my research with two groups: technological students of the applied sciences universities and graduates of automotive.  Some responses were striking: from the technological students I interviewed, 75% never heard of automotive! And 50% of the graduates of Automotive programs finds a job in other sectors than automotive.

Advice for the automotive educational programs and for the automotive sector
In de curriculums of technological educational programs it is possible to offer minors of the automotive programs. A lot of automotive minors are available for other students; that way students get to know the topics of the automotive industry. Also a broader view on the automotive sector is something to work on, and also the publicity for potential students with a technological interest has to focus more on automotive. Last of all Roen addresses that the name 'Automotive' doesn't fit the curriculum nowadays because it doesn't address green and smart mobility topics.
ACE is reflecting this advices with the applied universities. Interested in the report? You can read it here (in Dutch).
